Whiteface
Solid day of skiing. Funky view with a massive low-lying cloud that covered ground all the way over into VT and through the Champlain Valley. At the end of the day, the cloud started to move and creep up the hill, as seen in the last pic. Good times.
And then I went sledding today. We called it early because we were soaked from rain. Fin.

december rules
and so does global warming. the rt 7 pumptrack is still runing strong. got the xc bike out today and rode into a tree @ f.s. 2009 has been a great year for riding bikes due to the lack of snow (march-december) and destroys the old excuses for not riding in the winter. so much for the off season, more like the post season. Everyone is fired up about Drummer's 2o1o season.

Turknasty
Vacation was nice. Did a little tripod filming and photography. So of course I shredded the hell out of this berm in my yard. Check out that rut: booshtastic. I'd say like 4-5" tall, 3' long, and 2" deep. Yup, still talking bikes here, thankyouverymuch. Cornering is fun. Listening to the tired literally shred the dirt was baller. Not to mention the SX rips so hard. <3
staking my prey. just for fun.

Trouble in Paradise
This would not come as a huge surprise to those in the know, but it would still be sad to see because I know I wanted to see this happen in a BIG way. Hopefully things pull through and it stays, but the UCI is a picky mother and Windham dropped the ball when it was under the gun and had the eyes of the MTB World glued to it. Only time will tell if this is actually a rumor or not. Yikes.
(For more information perhaps supporting this potential decision, read the collectors edition of Decline that came out in October. The article in question was written by Matt Delorme and brings the issues at hand to light).

New
The header is new and improved at Mer's request, picture is from the old Vital, aka Litter Mag, from Schaldming in 2008 taken by Damien Breach.
In other news, XC rides at Saxon Hill on a DH bike while sick as a dog are not highly recommended. Fun, but harsh. The Rt. 7 pump track saw me for the first time yesterday. Good fun in the dirt with Jack and Jay. Some digging to be done soon.
And at some point we should have a legit team meeting if people are down, basically just to voice ideas and air grievances while holding onto the ceremonial boobar.
That is all I have for the moment.

Had a blast riding at Diablo closing weekend. Saturday kinda sucked, it rained all day and the lift line was longer than it was at the U.S. Open. However, Sunday was one of the best riding days I've had all season and made it all worth while. Rode most of the day with Sue and her bros from VT. (awesome pose) then linked up with Memmelar and Gavin Vaughn and tried to keep up with them for a couple of runs, which was awesome. For the last run of the day, everyone waited at the top till they shut the lift down and trained the whole upper mountain down dominion to the top of alpine. At Alpine, someone suggested the idea of a Le Mans style race, so we all put our bikes down, and hiked up the hill. Thanks to my strategically placed bike and getting the wholeshot I won the Le Mans race! Great way to end the season at Diablo. Yuroshek took some helmet cam footy of all the shinnanigans, which can be viewed here....

Platty #4
Its was bone dry all weekend. Perfect weather. Dave showed up on Sunday and pushed some new lines into the plan for my race run. The course was the jumptrail/fun run which was fast but alot of work into the mother of all plattekill features- Hardcore- ( I now need a backiomitomy ). Then into some fresh new stuff in the bottom.
Dave placed 5th 329with a crashin his run.
I again placed 7th 315 with a clean run. 8 seconds off first and 3 off box. Psched not to wad up and crash but with 3 people in my second everything was important.
There are only 3 platty races left . One of the is GES Finals. Get there

Race Prep
Doug, Steve and I have been up on Drummer for the past couple of days laboring over the 2 new sections of trails we're going to have for the Drummer Race this time around. We're building a sick new course on the upper power lines and a new lower section of double drop. I'm inviting anyone who wants to come up and practice the courses on saturday to stay at my house and party if they want saturday night. So start training, we mean business this time around

You know it is mid season when your bikes are roached like your tires and you begin counting down the final events on your schedule. As well loving the bone dry conditions of the past week in comparison to the new sport of swamp dh.
Didn't work last week so I rode. Killington 2x. Got to Highlands with Len on Sunday as well.

DRUMMER RACE #2
Being that the Fall Semester is approaching, I thought it was appropriate that we start to think about a date for the next Drummer Race. ANCIENT DRUMMER ARTIFACTS DISCOVERED
If you all recall, after the most recent Drummer race our recorded times went missing under my possession. There was some skepticism as to weather or not I was just upset that Jack had beaten me by 9 seconds on the upper single track BUT whilst parking/cleaning my car yesterday morning I made a very exciting discovery. The missing 2009 Drummer Race #1 results have been found. So here they are.....
Windham recap
Holy Mud Batman...but the massive amounts of running/standing water and mud on course, it was actually a cool race. 4 and half minutes on average for pro times and good pitch off the top with flow on the bottom resulted in a rather fun to ride course. Racing it was a different story, but all in all it was well put together after some mods were made post practice on sat. I finished mid pack (16/32+), doug got 5th, and a i am unsure as to where sam finished. All I know is that i am buying mud spikes and tear-offs before the next race. cheers.

Killington Opener
The weekend was awesome ripped runs with a lot of familiar faces at Killington. Winter was good to the trails not much has changed. Some sections are super bombed out but it just makes the riding better. Rumor has it that they are re opening the closed 30's eventually
The GES race at Highland is in two weeks followed by GES Attitash. Hoping to make it to 1 of those before heading back to Plattekill for race#3 and then GES Sugarbush which are back to back weekends.

MT SNOW #2
MT SNow #1 was a awesome event ... I know, can't believe I just said.
Everyone is looking forward to ripping ski slope again along with some roots this weekend.
Oliver even asked me to bring a trainer so he must be for real. Hopefully the rain stays away.
I am looking to get on the box by going 5 seconds faster and not crashing out.

Plattekill Race #2 Recap
Super Duper Weekend.
The course was totally rad with lots of steeps, drops and corners. Plus it was freakin' fast!
Practice on Saturday was the bomb-diggity. So much fun, even after the brief rain that passed through (read: hero drifts!)
Sunday was slick from a night of rain, but still awesome. One of Platty's best courses I think...
Results:
Ollie won Cat 1 by 6 seconds which was really exciting and a long time coming. Congrats again!
Jack came in 8th in Cat 1 even with an off in his race, so a solid recovery gave him a very respectable placing.
I (Zach) came in 4th in Pro, my first good result of the year and Pro rankings, so I was really pumped.
A great weekend all around!

US Nationals at Sol Vista
I have a friend who lives in Boulder, CO and I wanted to make plans to visit him this summer. Coincidentally US Nationals are about 2 hrs away from where he lives in Colorado. I'm seriously considering taking a trip out there in Mid-July for the race/visit. Let me know if this is tickling anybody's appetite, rolling out there with a Drummer posse would be the best way I could imagine it.

The plan
was not to do anthing this weekend and just ride trails in town and relax. That didn't happend as i got dragged into riding xc on saturday then went to the kingdom trails and did shuttles with the crew up there. So fast so much pedaling .
Platty #2 is up for Sat and SUN. the course is already hyped up as epic so we will see.
This week is ride some xc keep the dh bike fresh and rip pump track laps.

PUMP TRACK COMPLETE
So sick. So tight. It is truly dizzying. I will post pics and vids when i get my hands on such equipment. Dirt SHovels Carpets water and bikes = pump track.
Even the chinook knew because the chain broke yesterday. Been posting 5.45 for best lap time to give you an idea how small this guy is. Working on a cross back and adding two smaller dj in the middle is also possible. It is easy to rip 5 laps before getting sloppy. that and getting out takes about 50 seconds.

Mt. Snow Follow Up
So it's Monday, June 1st, and the race finished up yesterday afternoon at around 1 pm.
The rain held off for the most part, a few sprinkles here and there, but nothing course changing.
On my end, I decided to replicate my fall from practice on Saturday, at the end of practice on Sunday, but into a giant mud puddle. Just as awful, but with more mud...read: mud in and on everything. Yuck. But, that aside the race itself was pretty good for eveyone. Ollie's chain gave up the ghost out of the start gate which was a huge bummer, as he was looking really solid all weekend. Jack gave Cat 1 a nice whipping with an 8th place finish (hopefully he'll drop another line and chime in) and a time of 3:47 and change. For my first debut USAC Pro race I managed 11th with a 3:49 and change. I was a lack luster run, but after two massive falls, I just wanted to get down in one piece. Doug had a great run as well, but I forgot his time, my apologies. Look out for Mr. DMD, as he is looking on point for 2009. Fun times.

Mt SNOW #1
Is moto city. Majority of the course is open grass fast muddy muddy ruts and holes. The woods are old school beginer sport sections from Nats.
oliver is still recovering from the open. Zach is recovering from a crash on the noggin today. Thankfully he was ok. Doug is working the kinks out for his 1st race of 2009.
Things dried up a lot today and should continue on into tomorrow.

The Open was sick this year. Practice on Friday was a lot of fun. Diablo got the jumps right this year. The weather was perfect until Sunday afternoon during the finals and it dumped.
I missed qualifying on Saturday by 8 seconds ran a 2:55. The cut was at 248 I think. It was a great race.

Jack and I hiked a few trails at Ethan Allen Park in Burlington yesterday and I'm feeling MUCH better about the DH season, now that I'm not ricocheting and bouncing off things on little paths with my 27lb. hardtail/commuter.

Drummer Race #1
Thanks to everyone who came out today and rode. I think its safe to say we all had a great time. To all those who follow this blog and weren't there today (Zach), we hope you can make it out next time. The torch has been handed off to the current champion, a Mr. Jack Williams. Jack smoked everyone with a blistering time of 1:49 coming down single track 1 into the power lines, making it near impossible for any of the competition to catch up. The rest of the races were all extremely close and exciting, I will have the times all posted up as soon as I locate the piece of paper that I have currently misplaced (whoops).

into a 90'er turn, into more flat,
then that little gravity pit,
then the lip you can see.
